As preconstruction work for the Interstate 17 Improvement Project between Anthem Way and Sunset Point continues, motorists should expect several overnight lane closures in the week ahead, beginning the night of Monday, March 7.

Nightly southbound lane closures are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Monday and continuing through the morning of Friday, March 11. Drivers with travel plans along I-17 should expect the following restrictions:

March 7-9: Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane south of the Sunset Point Rest Area (milepost 252).
March 8-11: Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane south of Bumble Bee Road (milepost 248).
March 9-11: Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane near the Rock Springs exit (milepost 242) in Black Canyon City.
March 10-11: Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane south of Moore’s Gulch (milepost 238) and north of Table Mesa Road.

The Arizona Department of Transportation urges motorists to slow down, be prepared to merge into the open lane and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while restrictions are in place.

Schedules are subject to change because of weather or unforeseen situations. For the most up-to-date information, visit az511.gov or call 511, except while driving.

Additional lane restrictions will be scheduled throughout March. ADOT will provide information as details are confirmed.

This long-awaited improvement project includes widening 15 miles of north- and southbound I-17 between Anthem Way and Black Canyon City; replacing two bridges and widening 10 others; and constructing approximately eight miles of flex lanes between Black Canyon City and Sunset Point.

ADOT anticipates construction will begin later this spring and last about three years. Learn more at improvingi17.com or call the project information line at 1.877.476.1717.   back...
