Boston, MA – The U.S. Marshals in the District of Massachusetts, working with the Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police Department, are offering a reward of up to $5,000 and asking for the public’s help in locating a man suspected of killing one person and injuring another in a Jan. 31, 2023, shooting incident at a Dollar Tree store in Brockton.
District of Massachusetts Fugitive - Luis A. Soto
Luis A. Soto, 35, a former employee of the store, is charged with murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Brockton police detectives responding to reports of gunfire at the Dollar Tree on North Montello Street discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. State police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and Brockton Police Detectives identified Soto as the suspected shooter.
Investigators allege Soto entered the store armed with a handgun and fired a total of 16 shots while inside, striking two individuals. Both victims were transported to a local area hospital where one, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, succumbed to his injuries. The second victim’s injuries were non-life threatening.
Soto is a white man, standing 5 feet 10 inches and weighing approximately 190 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and numerous tattoos on his chest, neck and arms. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
An arrest warrant was issued out of Brockton District Court charging Soto with murder with nationwide extradition authorized. Soto also has an unrelated arrest warrant issued out of Salem District Court for violating an abuse prevention order.
