Richmond, VA – Members of the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Zackary Gurd, 23. Gurd was wanted by the Warren Police Department for aggravated murder.

On January 19, Gurd, along with two co-defendants, set fire to a house in Warren, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old girl. The victim’s two siblings managed to escape the fire, one sustained a broken back, and the other with non-life threatening injuries. Investigators developed information that Gurd fled the Warren, OH area on a Greyhound bus and was heading south, potentially towards Florida.

Task force members obtained information yesterday afternoon that Gurd got off the Greyhound bus in Richmond, VA, and fled on foot. US Marshals in Virginia tracked him from the bus station in Richmond, VA to the 1200 block of Iron Bridge Road, Chester, VA, where he was ultimately arrested. His arrest came within 24 hours of getting off the bus in Richmond. Gurd will remain in local custody in Virginia until he can be extradited back to Warren to face the charges against him.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “There was nowhere this dangerous fugitive could have gone to escape the reach of the Marshals Service. Our counterparts in Virginia vigorously canvassed the Richmond area until they were able to locate him walking on foot.”
