Earlier this week, Congress voted on a resolution misnamed the “Supporting the People of Ukraine Resolution.†With no time set aside for a hearing or even a robust debate, I voted against this resolution which was rushed to the floor for a vote.
Let me be perfectly clear, I am horrified by Russia’s naked aggression and have deep compassion and sympathy for the horrible suffering of the people of Ukraine and am moved by their nationalism. However, this seven-page resolution quite literally lays the groundwork to drag the United States into another foreign war.
Specifically, the resolution contains an open-ended call for immediate defensive security assistance. Translation: American troops could soon be on the ground in Ukraine. But don’t take my word for it, some of my colleagues in Congress, including Representative Kinzinger, have already requested U.S. enforcement of a no-fly zone. A no-fly zone would force allies to shoot down Russian aircraft, all but guaranteeing our involvement in a war we have no reason to fight. But there is more, over the weekend Secretary of State Blinken appeared on CNN’s State of the Union and informed the handful of viewers that might still watch CNN that the United States is “talking very actively about†sending U.S. fighter jets to Poland in exchange for Poland sending jets to Ukraine.
I have repeatedly stated that this conflict has nothing to do with American national security and not one American soldier should be dragged into a war 5000 miles away when there is no reason to be there. Additionally, I have called on Mr. Biden to seek Congressional approval before sending American troops into battle. back...
