Securing Our Elections

Earlier this month, Michigan's Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, reported her office identified an additional 15 non-citizens who cast illegal votes during the 2024 election. This is unacceptable. Only American citizens should be voting in our elections, and even one illegal vote is too many. In response, my colleagues and I demanded answers from Secretary Benson on this failure, and her policy position in opposition to commonsense election security measures like the SAVE Act to stop non-citizens from registering to vote.

Last week, the House took action to ensure our elections are secured. I voted to pass the SAVE Act to restore Americans' faith in the security of our elections. Last year, these non-citizens exploited a loophole here in Michigan that permitted them to cast illegal votes. The SAVE Act is commonsense, simply requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote. The bill passed the House in a bipartisan vote!

Tax Day Update

This week, millions of Americans filed their taxes to the IRS. In 2017 I voted for the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the biggest overhaul of our tax code since 1986, to cut tax rates for every Michigan family. Unfortunately, that legislation is set to expire this year. If these provisions expire, the tax code would revert to the old brackets in the image below, resulting in a major tax hike costing Michigan residents thousands of dollars each year. I am working in Congress to pass legislation to avoid a record tax hike on Michigan families.
