Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd would like to release the following information regarding an aggravated assault investigation.
On February 3, 2018, at approximately 6:22 p.m. the Gila County Sheriffâ€™s Office received a 911 call from an individual reporting that an unknown male subject had entered her residence and a struggle over a handgun ensued. During the struggle, the victim sustained a single gunshot wound to her lower extremities.
Deputies along with Detectives from the Gila County Sheriffâ€™s Office Criminal Investigation Bureau responded to the area of Pinal View Drive in Globe, Arizona. The victim reported to detectives that she retrieved a handgun and confronted one unknown male subject, who was attempting to burglarize her residence. The victim reported to Detectives that during the confrontation a struggle ensued over the handgun at which point the victim sustained a gunshot wound to her lower extremities, the victim was treated for her injuries by the Globe and Tri City Fire Departments. The victim was later flown by a medical air ambulance to a hospital in Chandler, Arizona where the she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect in this investigation is unknown at this time and was only described as a Caucasian male with facial hair growth. This is an active investigation and further information may be released as it becomes available.
