UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State is seeking candidates for the chancellor and chief academic officer (CAO) of the Penn State Greater Allegheny campus. Nancy Herron is serving as interim chancellor following the retirement of Curtiss Porter in December 2013.
The chancellor/CAO serves as the chief executive and academic leader of the campus and is responsible for the quality of academic programs; stewardship of the University’s teaching, research and service missions; strategic planning; budgeting; philanthropy; faculty and staff development, recruitment and evaluation; outreach; alumni relations; and cultivation and stewardship of campus constituents. In addition, the chancellor/CAO is a key executive of the University and serves as a member of the Academic Leadership Council and Council of Campus Chancellors. The chancellor/CAO reports to the vice president for Commonwealth Campuses.
The successful candidate for the position will be an experienced educator in a University setting with an accomplished scholarly record and demonstrated capability in fundraising and strategic and entrepreneurial leadership. Demonstrated success in building effective business and community relationships also is essential. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Penn State Greater Allegheny, a 52-acre residential campus 15 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, is situated between the residential community of White Oak and Renziehausen Park, a 258-acre park with walking trails, tennis courts, athletic fields and gardens. Current enrollment is approximately 600, of which 15 percent are adult students, and there are 36 full-time and 33 part-time faculty members. Seven baccalaureate degrees are offered at the campus. Students also may complete the first two years of nearly all of Penn State's more than 160 baccalaureate degrees at the Greater Allegheny campus and transition to another Penn State campus to complete their studies.
