Issues Alert on Cartel Crude Oil Smuggling Schemes on the U.S. Southwest Border
WASHINGTON — The Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned three Mexican nationals and two Mexico-based entities involved in a drug trafficking and fuel theft network linked to the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG). This network generates hundreds of millions of dollars annually, benefitting CJNG, through a slew of criminal activities, including fentanyl trafficking, fuel theft, and smuggling stolen crude oil from Mexico across the southwest border. Concurrently, Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) issued an Alert that provides financial typologies and red flags indicative of crude oil smuggling schemes on the U.S. southwest border associated with CJNG and other Mexico-based transnational criminal organizations.

Over the last two days, agencies terminated 401 wasteful contracts with a ceiling value of $2.1B and savings of $613M, including a $276k Treasury contract for a “Kenya program coordinator”, a $228k Treasury contract for “Kenya, Uganda, Namibia and Tanzania cruiser vehicles”, a $24k DHS contract for “two day training on equal opportunity in employment”, a $15k DHS contract for “Out and Equal workplace advocates”, and a $5.9M DoC contract for “environmental consulting support services”.

Mesa, AZ - A federal grand jury in Phoenix returned a five-count indictment against Ian William Moses, 35, of Mesa, Arizona for Maliciously Damaging Property and Vehicles in Interstate Commerce by Means of Fire.
The charging documents filed in the case allege that Moses was at the Tesla dealership in Mesa shortly before 2 a.m. on Monday, April 28, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, tan ballcap, grey pants, black boots, and a black mask. He also carried a red plastic gas can and a black backpack. While in the Tesla parking lot, Moses was captured on video as he placed fire starter logs next to the dealership building. Moses then poured gasoline onto the starter logs, the building, and three Tesla vehicles. At around 1:38 a.m., Moses ignited the starter logs, causing a fire that destroyed a silver Tesla Cybertruck. Video shows Moses leaving the dealership on a dark colored bicycle shortly thereafter.

Refund checks totaling more than $18 million are in the mail to more than 281,724 Publishers Clearing House (PCH) customers eligible for a refund as a result of an FTC action. In their case, the FTC said PCH used language and designs to trick people into thinking they had to buy things to enter or increase their chances of winning a sweepstakes. According to the FTC’s complaint, PCH sent emails with deceptive subject lines that led people into thinking the emails were related to official documents, like tax forms.

The Justice Department has announced federal criminal charges in two separate cases involving the alleged obstruction of federal law enforcement operations and unlawful concealment of individuals residing illegally in the United States.
“The allegations against Judge Dugan and Judge Cano are serious: no one, least of all a judge, should obstruct law enforcement operations," said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. "Doing so imperils the safety of our law enforcement officers and undermines the rule of law. The Department of Justice will continue to follow the facts — no one is above the law.”
