LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a significant amount of alleged cocaine carrying an estimated street value of more than $601,000 in one enforcement action over the weekend.

“The layered enforcement strategy implemented by CBP is a key component that contributes to the interception of narcotics at our port of entry,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “I commend the officers for their hard work and commitment to keeping these dangerous narcotics off our streets.”

The seizure occurred on Friday, July 28, at the Lincoln-Juarez International Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2008 Volvo commercial bus driven by a 42-year-old-male Mexican citizen from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, for further inspection. Upon a canine and non-intrusive inspection of the commercial bus by CBP officers, a total of 30 packages allegedly containing 78 pounds of cocaine was discovered. The contraband carries an estimated street value of $601,800.

CBP officers seized the commercial bus and the narcotics. The driver was arrested and the case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.   back...
